10 Things To Include In Your Baby Memory Book

The first year or two of a child's life is an exciting time. It’s filled with many small memories and big milestones, many of which often pass us by much too quickly. Whether it’s first learning that you're pregnant or capturing the baby's first smile, a baby book is a great way to preserve these memories for years to come.

Follow our tips to fill your child's baby book with many amazing photos and fun keepsakes.

1. Photo of Your Positive Pregnancy Test

For most, a pregnancy test is the start of your journey into parenthood. After the two lines appear or the test shows a plus symbol, you know that there is a baby on the way. You may laugh, cry, and not know what words to say. You can capture the whole thing and include those photos in the first blank pages of your baby book.

2. Ultrasound Pictures

An ultrasound allows you to get the first glimpse at your baby before they arrive. This makes it one of the most exciting occasions for a couple that is expecting. We recommend that couples print an ultrasound picture and include it in their baby book. Not only will the picture remind you of the joy of seeing your child for the first time, but it will also be an exciting photo for your child to look at when they're older.

3. A Copy of Your Pregnancy Announcement

Nowadays, it is a common tradition to announce that you are pregnant. While some people send out a card to their different family members, others post a photo on their Facebook or Instagram accounts for all of their followers to see. Whichever method you choose, you should save a copy and include it in your baby photo album.

4. Pregnancy Photos

Most of your baby's first year of life is mom's belly. We recommend that you take a monthly photo of mom's growing belly to document the growth of your unborn baby. Later, you'll be able to look back at the photos to see how mom and baby changed from the first month of pregnancy all the way to birth.

5. Baby Shower Memories

Baby showers are a great way to celebrate mom and a new baby on the way. Friends and relatives gather to play fun games, celebrate and give gifts. It can be a memorable day, especially if this is your first baby.

We recommend that you include pictures of the shower in your baby record book. You could also write down funny stories and details about the baby shower.

6. The Story of The Baby's Birth

The baby's arrival is one of the most exciting times in both parents' and child's lives. It’s important to capture this special moment on certain pages in your memory book.

While pictures are great additions to your baby book, we highly recommend sitting down after your child's birth to write down their birth story. You could go into depth about when you went into labour, who was with you, how you were feeling and more. Other details like their weight, time of birth, the hospital and the hospital room that they were born in will be important information that you won't want to forget.

7. A Lock of Hair

One one of the most memorable moments in a baby's life is their first haircut. When your child gets their first professional haircut, ask the hairdresser if you could keep a lock of their hair. You can place the lock in a small bag tucked into the front cover of your traditional baby book.

8. Include Your Relatives

While a baby keepsake book is all about a baby, it is also about their family tree. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and parents have contributed to the story of the baby and should be featured in the baby's memory book.

A great idea is to have the family write stories about themselves and the baby in the baby book. They could write about first meeting the baby, what the baby likes, and their favourite memories together. They could even sign their entries like a yearbook, wishing them well in the future. This would be an amazing way to include relatives in documenting your child's first year.

9. Their First Tooth

Most babies start developing their teeth anywhere from six months to their first year. This can be a difficult time as they teethe, but memorable nonetheless. If you can, snap a photo of your baby smiling and showing off their new tooth.

When your child is older and begins losing their baby teeth, you could also save the first tooth they lose and place it in your baby memory book.

10. Their First Steps

After your little one has learned to crawl and stand, they soon start putting one foot in front of the other. This is an exciting time that should be captured and documented in your baby book. Keep a camera close and snap a photo of their first few steps. Later, you can look back on the photographs stored in your baby memory book and remember the excitement and pride you felt at that moment.
